Six seniors participating in the Syracuse University Los Angeles Semester program have won scholarships.

Winners of the Jack Oakie & Victoria Horne Oakie Scholarships include Maggie Applegate '15, a student in the Newhouse School’s television, radio and film (TRF) program from Winfield, New York; Mack Bleach '14, a TRF student from Sherman Oaks, California; Matt Fernandes '15, a TRF student from Milpitas, California; Dan Grove '15, a TRF student from Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Sarah Shelton '14, a student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA)’s Bandier Program from Kingston, Massachusetts. The merit-based scholarships are funded by the Oakie Charitable Foundation and provide financial support for outstanding undergraduate students who are accepted to participate in the SULA Semester.

Christian Green '15, a student in VPA’s film program, is the winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Film Internship Grant. The grant provides financial support for a student who is seeking an internship involving some aspect of theatrical motion picture production. Green is interning at Filmworks/FX, where he is working on visual effects and 3D modeling for several feature films under development at the company.

The SULA Semester is a satellite campus program that allows students from the Newhouse School and VPA to spend a semester studying and interning in Los Angeles. For more information, see
