Orange Around the World
In honor of Philanthropy Week and National Orange Day, we’re celebrating Syracuse’s rich history, spirit, and tradition of serving others with a special project—Orange Around the World. Our mission is to provide care packages for each of Syracuse’s 325 active-duty alumni in the Armed Forces, and we’re calling on the whole Syracuse community to help!
Three ways to participate:
>> We supply the box, you fill it. Just stop by our pick-up/drop-off location to get your box and create your own care package. Then return your completed box, unsealed, to the same location. See Care Package Tips below for recommendations on contents to include and what to avoid.
>> Donate care package items. If you can’t fill a whole box but still want to help, that’s fine too! Simply bring your items to our drop-off location (see recommended contents below). Stop by anytime during business hours throughout the month of February.
>> Sponsor a care package. Support our cause, and we’ll put the package together for you. A $44 gift sponsors a full box, or choose whatever level is comfortable.
Make a gift now using our online giving form or make checks payable to Syracuse University, Orange Around The World, and mail to Syracuse University, 820 Comstock Avenue, Suite 214, Syracuse, NY 13244-5040.
Return completed boxes, unsealed, to the location below. Care packages will be assembled and shipped to our military alumni for National Orange Day—March 24, 2016.

>> Playing cards
>> Small pillows, towels, or blankets
>> Pringles (small cans)
>> Powdered mixed drinks (i.e. Tang, iced tea, lemonade)
>> Homemade baked goods (they have to be able to last the trip!)

The following items should NOT be included in boxes:

History of Orange Around the World
A decade ago, Jason Yaley ’05, G’06 thought up the idea for Orange Around The World while pursuing his graduate studies at Syracuse’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Yaley sought to remind people that while Syracuse is proud of all alumni, we must not forget about our heroes in the military.
Yaley organized a similar University-wide project for National Orange Day in 2006, to show appreciation for alumni serving our country. He’ll return to campus as packages once again ship out on National Orange Day!
